I aquired a fairly well rusted and pitted Howser Bushog. Don't ask me how I got this 5' thing...but I got it. I don't know enough about bushogs to know what the pieces are called...but the deck is in good shape. It is the round disc attachment with the blades that needs work. Are these standard items, and can replacement parts be found? I'm sandblasting the deck and the spinning disc with blades...but I may just replace the spinning disc if I can locate one. Is Howesr a decent brand? What is a reconditioned bushog valued at? thanks. tm

I have a 6 foot Howse brush hog. I purchased it new several years ago. Mine has a stump jumper and swinging blades. I've used it pasture clipping a lot and have cut some brush with it. It has been very reliable for an inexpensive unit. Also, I've whammed into rocks with it by accident and I don't recall it ever having thrown one forward at me. Much better that the one I had before that! All in all I can't really say anything bad about mine.

I've got some of the operators manuals for the Howse mowers. They're ok for a cheap mower, and you only need to keep grass down. They won't stand too much stump or rock work. The other guys right on the cost of the stump jumper, it's alots better deal from Wallace than Howse.

If you need or want a copy of the op manual just email me and I'll scan you a copy or fax it to you. In my neck of the woods a reconditioned Howse is about $300 to $350 or so. The new Howse is about $500 to $575 around here for a 5'.
Good luck, and be careful with it.

I've got a 'Howze' 5' bush hog that came with my old tractor. It looks like heck, and the rear wheel has required welding twice since I've had it (lots of hills, and I'm rough on it).

I replaced the stump jumper last summer. The hardest part was finding the manufacturer--mine had no markings on it. Finally found out it was a Howze. The new stump jumper cost me about $70, including shipping.

I'd recommend reading an operator's manual...I learned a lot from it. You can download one (not from Howser or Howze) from a neat company called Wallace. They were very helpful to me finding who built my mower. They're site for downloading the manual is>Link

good luck, take care,
Tom

TM, the spinning disc is called a stump jumper. You should be able to replace it. The Howse brand of brush hog is one of the cheaper brands. I have a Howse post hole digger and it works ok for me. I would estimate $400 to $500 in good condition. Hope this helps...Emery
