I bought a Ford, 501 sickle bar mower at an auction but it was missing the tractor end of the PTO shaft, 1 X 1-1/8" female with quick connect.
New Holland told me they can build one for me for $175. but I was hoping that some one on this forum would have one I could buy, even the shaft alone without the cross & connector would be a help. I really hate to pay as much for a shaft as I bought the mower for. HELP! redgate@echoweb.net

For most small implements a piece of exhaust pipe is strong enough to transmit the required torque. I made a pto shaft last year for an allis chalmers sickle mower. Later when the shaft on my square baler broke I used the remaining piece for it. I think I paid $15 for the whole stick versus $2 an inch for drive shaft materila. If the tubing size is too small simple get an expander to open it up to fit. Seemed to work fine.

I keep a large inventory of these parts on the shelf includeing the shafting. You can contact me for prices if you don't find anything local.

Quality Farm and Fleet (also CT, Country General, County Post and Fisco) has a fair selection of PTO components, including 1x1.125" square tubing, the 6-spline quick disconnect, and the yokes and crosses to connect them. If you're lucky enough to have a well-stocked store in your area, you might find the yoke and shaft already welded together in the right combination. They're still pricey, though. I'd try to find one at an ag junkyard someplace, first. Or maybe a dealer who has a lot of junk around. 1" by 1 1/8" is a pretty common size, and if you find one that's too long you can always trim it to length.

If you want pto parts from Central Tractor, you better hurry. They have discontinued the entire Weasler line of pto parts, and a source in the company told me they aren't being replaced in the inventory.

That explains the empty shelves in my local store which I had been attributing to CT's neverending quest to be as unhelpful as possible. :)

There is a big tractor junk yard north of me but when I called they said they would have to make one, The closest CT to me is in Colorado, I'm in Oregon, there are similar stores here but they don't have many parts & pieces.
