I have a Vertical Chase shingle mill purchased and am waiting for it to get home. What kind of information do you all have on this contraption. It will be on display at the Macoupin Agricultural Antique's Fall Festival September 16-17 in Carlinville, Illinois (halfway between Springfield, Il and St. Louis, Mo). Any information is appritiated.

Chase built a very nice shingle machine. I rebuilt one with my father in the late 60's.My only contact with Chase machines came from this job. We used the machine to cut about 2000 bundles (500 sq.) of white pine- 16"x7/16 that are covering a house I bought, and many other projects. Power came from a 51 Ford car engine that we ran with a flat belt from a pulley mounted on the transmission output shaft. If you have problems with your machine, give me a call.

I also have a chase shingle mill-have seen pictures on net-paint schemes do not match what I found when I cleaned years of grime away. The only red that I found was on the belt pulley-the rest was a machinery gray. Maybe a repaint at sometime. What was the original paint scheme? Also, it will alternate the log nicely for a while-to get the taper each time--then it will stop and start cutting boards-any suggestions? is there someplace to get parts for the log holding assembly? Any help appreciated.
