I have a 5 foot Howse brush hog type mower that I have been using on my 8-N. Recently bought larger tractor with 43 hp at the PTO. Can anyone tell me with any degree of certainty if I can use mower on new tractor or would I have to find out gear box rating of mower?

I agree with Steve. You should have no problem using your brush hog. I have a 6 foot Howse brush hog and used it for years with my Ford 3000 and now with my JD 5105. Never had any trouble.

I just checked the manual that came with my 5' Howse rotary cutter (brush hog). According to the manual, Howse cutters up to 6' have a 45 HP gear box. Your old cutter and your new tractor should work fine together as long as the tractor has a Catagory I three point hitch. A 43 PTO HP tractor can handle a larger cutter with ease. To get the full benefit of you increased HP I suggest you start looking for a "steal-of-a-deal" on a larger cutter.
