The knot seems to be hanging up in the throat area of the knife/wiper arm even though the part is smooth. As the bale is pushed back it pulls the knot free. One side is doing this the other isn't????? If I have to "model"(bend) the part, what is the best way to do so?

Check your haydog springs-If they are weak or broken the symptoms will be the same as yours. The dogs hold the hay when the plunger is on the return stroke--they may LOOK OK but if they are weak the knot will pull through.....

Check your twine tension. Make sure that there is enough tension on the twine, but not too much. THe 336 and 24T are identical, we always run the 24T because they are cheaper, although they lack the safety sheilds. We had several problems with one side, and it was too much tension on the twine. also, make sure the wiper is close to the bill hook and stripping it clean. This can be bent a little bit to correct the problem. Make sure the needle is coming up far enough for a proper tie. Have someone turn the baler over by hand, while you trip the knotters and watch to see what is happening

Duane,
THE OWNERS MANUAL FOR THE 24T HAS EXCELLENT PICTURES AND DESCRIPTIONS FOR MODELING THE WIPER ARM. THE KNOTTERS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE VIRTUALLY IDENTICAL FOR THE 2 MACHINES. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Which brand of baler is this(NH or JD)? Does the knot have a loop in it? If it does it usually means the knot is being released before both pieces of twine are cut. You need to adjust the twine knife so both pieces of twine are cut before the knot is released. This pertains to NH balers. Don't know about JD.

I wouldn't start bending things. Chances are it's something simple like timing or twine tension. Do you have an owner's manual? It should have troubleshooting tips.
