Can't figure out how to mount Ford 515 sickle mower

I recently bought a Ford series 515 3pt sickle mower. I can't for the life of me figure out how to mount it on my Ford 840. The piece that appears to connect to the stabilizer bar pin is too short and there's an L shaped bar with a chain on it that needs to be connected somewhere. I didn't get a manual and obviously need one. Does anyone have a picture of how it should be done? Thanks.

George:

Went through the same thing earlier this spring with my 515 bought at auction. Strongly recommend you buy the manual...it's loaded with all kinds of interesting info that'll keep it running. New Holland sells reprints for $7 plus tax (.35). Call 'em at 800-635-4913...they were prompt; think I had the book in about a week. Good luck, have fun.

The piece you think should attach to the stablizer pin should just clamp to the left 3-point arm, if you clamp it farther forward the bar won't lift as high, if you clamp it farther back, the arm will lift higher.

The L shapped piece with chain - the chain should attact to the mower bar pivot, the other end of the chain should attach to the L. The L should then attach to the bar that clamps to the left lift arm.

If that didn't make any sense at all, then I misunderstood what you were trying to describe.

Thanks Paul. That does help though I'm still a little confused. I think it'll take some kind of bracket to clamp the strain relief to the 3pt arm because of the big spring. As to the "L", on mine the lower end of the L is solidly mounted to the mower frame. The chain is bolted to the top of the L and goes through a large hole at the end of the L. There does appear to be a groove on the pipe around the strain relief. However, hooked up like that I don't understand why it wouldn't have worked chained right to the 3pt arm? I guess I'm just not grasping how it's supposed to work. I will definitely order the manual.

I have a slightly different model number, & I hear they have different brackets for different tractors. So, it looks like we are talking the same language, but a different accent. :) My chain stops at the L bracket, so I better not try to give you advise on yours!
