I just bought 36 acres and I will need a back hoe for putting in a septic tank, digging up stumps and general stuff like that. I have a Ford 2000 and hope to find a back hoe to work on it. I haven't really started looking yet but, is there anything that I should look for or avoid? There's supose to be a tractor junk yard around here, but I haven't been there yet. Will a back hoe even work on a Ford 2000? It's just your basic tractor...I guess, it has a gas engine and no pwr steering. Thanks in advance for any insight and wisdom on this subject!!

Do you have a front end loader on your tractor ?

Backhoe and no loader is kinda like
a hamburger without the Catsup... or
without the bun for that matter....

While the 3 point hitch variety work, they
are slower and may tend to give you
an 'unbalanced' rig without a front-end
loader.

Don't buy anything with a rotary swing.

You can get a 3point hitch backhoe for it it will work ok .It just won't dig super fast so just take your time a it will dig fairly good.
