USING A NH 270 BALER. AS I INCREASE THE TENSION TO MAKE THE BALES TIGHTER, I NOTICE THE BALES ARE BECOMING CURVED, AS IF ONE OF THE LONG SIDES WERE SHORTER THAN THE OTHER. OTHERWISE IT'S WORKING FINE. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

Like others said, you want the windrows to be uniform in size, or as uniform as you can get them reasonably.

If you refer to your operators manual it should tell how to move the pickup fingers on their mounting bar an inch or so at a time to alleviate banana bales, which is what I interpret your problem as being. It's quick to do, and should help after a little fiddling.

Are they curling up along the twine, like they are trying to become small round bales, or curling left to right, like the front is trying to touch the back? Could be that you have one side set tighter than the other. Might try setting the 2 tensioner rods the same. Also, I had a very good baler mechanic say once that it should take 13 plunger strokes to make a bale. Try checking one of yours and see where it's at. Too many and you need to drive faster.

I would guess that you are not feeding the hay in fast enough and the bottom side of the bale is being fed more hay than the top half.

The tighter the tension you use the more this would occur.

Try driving faster to fill the bale chamber with more hay.

Give it a try.
