What are some of the best square balers built, and what are some of the worst. I was thinking about this today when I was baling with a Case 200 and thrower with my AC D19. The case bales ok, but the pickup and feeding system stinks. If the windrow is too big or gets to either side of the pickup it tends to plug up. I was in 1st and low and still too fast in the heavy hay. Made me dream of the JD 24T I used to have.

I used to have a NH model 273 until I went to round bales. Our NH square baler was very reliable and put out very consistent bales. There don't seem to be many folks square baling anymore in our area (SW MO), but those who do seem to prefer NH balers.

In this area there is many, many thousands of acres of alfalfa and only two colors of small square balers JD and NH. Most of it is baled with larger balers which are Hesston and NH.

The 24t is one of the best balers made. John Deere 336 is the best model from Deere, We used to sell them new and never hear anyhing back frome the customer. Then Deere came out with the 337's, the timing adjustments on the twine disks were changed and reliability suffered. I used a Ford baler once with a slip clutch instead of shear bolt, the clucth was rusted and siezed, twisted the pto shaft, stub shaft and blew out the clutch it is waitng for the scrap dealer now. Parts were not all availible, When I got the clutch disks from NH they were in pieces packaged in too small of a bag to hold a complete disk. They were broken before being shipped by the depot. Moral stick to a brand that is still in buisiness like JD or NH

You don't have Dukes e-mail address. That replied to your baler question in 2000. I would like to know what size baler that ford was that he sent to the bone yard. An where was the bone yard? I have a ford 532 baler I need parts for.

I lucked into a good deal yesterday. A woman wanted to sell all their old farm equipment cause I think she's going to sell the farm. I bought a JD 336 with kicker, Badger haybine,AC CA, H&S kicker wagon with a good gear and a 77 Int truck with a dump bed for $3300. I used the baler today and it didn't miss a bale after sitting in the trees for over 2 years. Bye bye case 200.
