How big of a tractor do you need to run a J.D.24T bailer with a kicker? I've been told 65 H.P.min. This sounds like a lot? What model tractor would be a good match? Thanks ,Dan

You have the #2 ejector then. It may require a surge horsepower. There are #2 parts that are no longer available from Deere. Late 24T, and the 3x6 series balers used the #30 ejector, which is hydraulically driven by a pump operating under the flywheel of the baler. This does not take much more horsepower than the baler. Even with the mechanical ejector, I think 45-50 hp will still work. Depends on the bale weight, too.

I have used an JD A on a 224t on level ground. A 224t is a comercial 24t

I used to run a JD336 with kicker (which basically a suped-up 24T with a gear driven knotter) with a 48 hp MF 65 with no problems. However, I found that for larger wagons on rolling fields, a bigger tractor was better, not so much for the horsepower, but for the weight and stopping power. I now use a 90 hp JD 4020 to bale, but I also now pull 8'x18' and 8'x20' wagons instead of 7'x16'.
