DISK HARROW

I would appreciate any help in identifying a John Deere disk I recently acquired. It is 17+ ft. wide, with the four legged deer logo, so I think it was manuf. between 1956 and 1968. It has dual wheels similar to a FW or FWA but the axel frame has a round pipe welded in a bridge effect to the top. The main frame & hitch are a round pipe about 4" in dia. It has two metal channels with pulleys on the back end which a chain rides in to lift the back gang in transport mode. These channels are fastened to the axel frame with a pin, between the wheels. As the wheels are forced down (by the hydro ram) these channels are moved back over a roller & ride up a ramp to lift the rear gang via the chains. The main frame only encompassses the front gang & does not have any weight (rock) pans. Thanks for your help

Tony, I'm not sure if they made it in a 17' size, but it sounds like you are describing an AW disk. Are each front gang sections flexible, with the back like you described and pivoting in the middle? If so, then it likely is a model AW. Hope this helps. Mike

Thanks for the comments. But no, the gangs are both fixed angle. The closest thing I've seen so far is the FW, but the picture that I have is fuzzy and I can't see the back of the disk so I don't know what the lift on the rear gang is like on an FW or FWA

Thanks for your concern Mike. I pursued that ave. on Fri. & have a parts manual coming, and it is an FWA.

Tony, an AW disk will have fixed gang angles, but the gangs can pivot up and down with the mechanism you described. Your local John Deere dealer should have a picture of your disk on his computer or in his parts books. Hope this helps. Mike
