I have an old International sickle mower that I would like to fix up. As a first step, I would like to have some help identifying the particular model. We know that this mower fits onto the axle of a Farmall H in place of the drawbar. It does not have wheels. The mechanism that raises and lowers the cutting bar is attached via a chain to a rod that extends to about the hydraulic pressure points on the left side of the tractor. If the mower is indeed raised and lowered by the hydraulic system, we may be missing the hydraulic cylinder. There are several numbers stamped on the mower, usually beginning with 4514. I believe one number is 451491R4.

Any help identifying this mower or even confirmation that IH made a hydraulically raised mower like this would be appreciated.

I know IH made a version similar to the model 25V (which was later improved with the model 27V) which mounted directly to the axle in place of the drawbar. Although it apparently worked ok, it never seemed very popular in the area I grew up because of the inconvenience of mounting it, and the fact that the tractor couldn't be used for anything else without having to go through the inconvenience of dismounting the mower.

i'm sorry I don't know the model number of that mower but I do remember seeing them as a kid in the late 40's and 50's.

Thanks. Somebody sent me email saying they thought the model number was HM-16. I could certainly understand why some would consider it inconvenient.
