Fordson Dexta alternator (generator??) problems

I've had a 1960 Fordson Dexta for about 3 months now. For the last 3 weeks or so, i've been having to jump it off to start it. I assumed it was just a bad battery. The battery looked fairly new, so I thought I would do some checking.
I jumped it off with my truck to get it started, then after removing the cables, I put a meter on the battery terminals. It read 12.5 volts. But while it was idling, I noticed a very slow but steady drop in voltage. (12.49, 12.48...12.4) over a period of about 5 minutes. This shouldn't be happening if the alternator is putting out should it? So then, I idled the tractor up and noticed no change in the decreasing voltage. I removed the positive lead and measured at the lead. No voltage present. What does it sound like? One other question: does anyone have a shift pattern for this tractor? The electrical question in most important.... Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
