Changing from poly to sisel baling twinge

The message string below has prompted this question which has been floating around in my head for some time. I have a NH 271 baler which was loaded with poly twine when I bought it and that's what I've used ever since. I'd like to use sisel twine but have been reluctant to change because things have been working well with the poly. What is involved in making the switch (if anything) and what problems might I be setting my self up for if I do? Thanks for the help.

We have a NH 273 and can switch back and forth without any adjustments or problems at all. Just take out the old, put in the new, guide it through all the guides and needes and yer on yer way.

After you remove a few ploy twine grease seals fromyour hubs you will like sisal better.

My experience has been that sisal is more forgiving than poly reference lop sided bales. Also, like has been mentioned, it is not biodegradable and so it stays around forever. On the other hand the rats and mice tend to leave it alone.

I doubt that you would have any trouble with sisal if you switched.

Just remember the sissal comes in small twine for round bales and bigger twine for small square like the poly does.

There should'nt be any trouble just from switching which kind you use. The problems are like tim and bbott said. So those parts of it are strictly personal choice as to which is better.

All I know for sure is the poly is harder on the baler, especially the knotter drive and bill hooks.
To me it's easier to use sissal but I can see where the poly would be better for loading and handling.

I'd need to have a very good reason to switch back to sisal from poly myself . . . . Poly has been much less trouble, and holds bales tighter, breaks less landing in wagon.

The trouble I've had with it happens AFTER it gets cut off the bales. We had some renters in the pasture that didn't pay much attention to what they were doing when they fed.

There is poly twine everywhere. buried in the pasture, the feed area... and it lasts (seemingly) forever. I've been picking it up for years... and think I have years to go.

Of course, the above is a human problem, and if you were doing things right, it wouldn't be a big deal.

I may go back to sisal next summer, but then again, after the first couple days I may regret it.
