I just finished building a hayflat, yeah! anyway I would like to put a back onto it to prevent the hay from sliding off of the back and I would also like to make it removable... Any suggestions on how I should do this?

Thanks,

Karl

Is this what you call a hayflat? I used angle iron bolted to the main frame pieces then bolted to the 2x6 uprights. I also lagbolted the uprights to the main frame pieces. I know this doesn't show much but I hope it helps. When I stack bales, the first tier I always put the bottom bales away from the back and slant them backwards. Then each succeding tier is slanted too. Good luck.

My grandfather's had steel straps on the ends of the rails that the rack would slide in and out of. He had it set up so the rack leaned slightly to the rear. He told me that this was so that when you stacked, the load would lean against the rack, instead of leaning forward and falling on the tractor (and driver).

Absolutely. The only way to go. That's how my 2 are made.
