I have a 14-93 sickle bar mower that was left at the house i rent. It is missing some parts otherwise it is in good shape. Can any one tell me if it is worth fixing? The part missing is from the driven flywheel to the sickle bar and tractor side of pto shaft. Thanks

Eric, I think that mower is the same as a 501 Ford. I have one that says 1493 also but it's identical to a 501. The pitman arm is just a piece of wood and shouldn't be too expensive. Might have one at a Farm and Home store. If not a New Holland dealer should have one. The pto shaft shouldn't be too expensive either. Mowers like that around here go for 350 to 500 dollars. You can probably get that one going for less that 50 bucks. Good Luck, Festus

If you have trouble finding the pittman arm, and it is a 501, then I could take measurements of mine. You could then make one out of hickory or oak I suppose. I've been meaning to do this before I break my own pittman. I'll have to look at the serial number plate on my mower, it may also say 14-93. The part I'm missing (at least in part) is the right-side clamp for the lifter arm. This has the old ball-and-socket joint arrangement for the mower's stabilizer arm, and a hangy-down part that the blade lifter mechanism connects to (which is broken off of the clamp casting).

If it is, in fact, a Ford 501 like mine, I might take it for free but I would darn sure sell it instead of using it. Of all the three-point implements I have ever hooked to a tractor, that thing is the most aggravating to hook up and use. Maybe if I was using it on an older Ford tractor, it would hook up better. That stupid substitute for the top link and that bracket that attaches to the left lift arm don't fit my MF250, New Holland 1920, or old JD40 correctly. Other than the fact that it takes three people 15 minutes of cussing and wrestling (and it's always 90-some-odd degrees when you're using it) before it can be used, it has cut pretty well.

Jason, are you unhooking the big heavy spring from the top arm of the 3-point before hooking it up? Then it hooks up easy, like any other 3-point implement. Stand out of the way, lift it up, and you can put the pin back in to the spring/arm. Makes this very easy.

Can't help with the lift control dealy, I'm sure it's tough when it doesn't fit the tractor right.
