I'm planning on making a landscape rake this winter (and will add the wheels per post below). Also, am thinking possibly a lawn roller from an old water heater. I've got some metal lying around and am also thinking I might hit up a wrecking yard for some leaf springs for material. I'll be brushing up on my welding skills.

Have any of you folks made your own implements? What are some pitfalls? Any pictures? thanks!
Dave

I realize that not everyone has an old snowplow hanging out in the back yard, but if you do, it is a very easy conversion.
I removed the swing aparatus and the hydraulic cylinders. I had to drill 2 half inch holes, and weld 2 one inch beads. The rest I had sitting around as pieces and parts of metal. Bolted together and works like a dream. I can only push straight backwards, but what the heck. For free, I will live with it. I could easily have rigged it for about 30 degree swing either way, by drilling 2 more holes and using drop pins for stops. Maybe next year...
I have graded my hard packed driveway already, and am looking forward to snow!
Oh yeah!...It can all be put back to the way it was in about 10 minutes...Also a heck of alot beefier than a new CT special...
