Just acquired this old sickle mower (complete but but very worn) and have some questions. On top of the list is where does the stabilizer bar hook up? I'm going to mount it on an AC B and I'm starting to work on the 3pt now. Do they ride on the ground when you use them, or does the sickle bar cantilever out at whatever height you set with the 3pt lift? What's the big spring and cable arrangement for? I could go on.

I paid $40 for it and plan to use it to mow to the waters edge around two small ponds. Are manuals still available for this thing. I've been reading past posts on sickle mowers and mine seems different in that it has a metal pitman arm.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any help, thanks!

I'd strongly recommend you call New Holland pubs place @ 800-635-4913 and order the manual. They provided me with the manual for my Ford 515 sicklebar, which is the model just after yours. Cost about $15 as I recall, and has a lot of details and pics to help hook up and adjust it. If you've never hooked one up, you'll never figure it out for yourself! The parts guy at my local New Holland dealer loaned me his father's original manual (yeah, talk about great service) until mine came in the mail...perhaps you can ask at yours and at least get a look see at one of theirs.

good luck,
Tom
