I have a rod that is attached to the lift mechenizm near the gear box. Where does the other end attach. This rod (approx 1/4") was bent and basically destroyed and will need replaced but the twisted end that is unattached I can't seem to find a place for it to attach.

Also, as you are setting on the corn planter seat there is another rod to the left attached to a small foot pedal and it is for operating the wheel mud scrapers. The rod lever that attaches to the mud scraper shaft is broke/missing on mine. Please advise if that lever is made to go totally around the mud scrapper shaft and the orientation of that lever as it is mtd on the shaft.

Deere Mansur Corn Planter Owners
I just acquired what I think is a working Deere & Mansur Corn Planter.
How do I find the MFG date?
Any pictures of original machine?
Thinking of restoring - any sales literature available?

Does anyone have a picture of the decal that goes on the Deere& Mansur horse drawn corn planter? We're restoring one and would also like to replace the decal. All we can tell from what we ahve is Kernels of corn in a circle with probably a buck in the center and the words Deere & Mansur Co. Moline, Ill. are in the kernels. Thanking you in advance for your help.

The rod that is twisted, goes to a cast piece in front of the lifting lever. The bottom goes through another cast piece, that was to be attached to the wooden hitch. The rod also had a compression spring(fairly heavy duty)around it. At least thats the deal with mine. As for the mud scraper lever, I strongly think it only covers half of the shaft. A carriage bolt goes through the lever, through the shaft, out the back to be completed with the lock washer, and nut. I also have info. on the correct paint code. As strange as this may sound, the entire planter is painted RED(if you do not believe me I will email the picture of one.) Now I like IHC, but I think the planter should be the JD green instead of red. The wheels are of course the normal yellow. I would still paint the planter green, thats what I did. I hope this helps you out.

(When I saw your question, it reminded me to get my Deere & Mansur 999 planter ready for next planting season. Thanks!) Sean.

John Deere's traditional Green and Yellow paint jobs were not started until they acquired Waterloo Boy.

Ever see a 999 converted to 3-point hitch for use on a Ford? I can't find any traces of red paint on ours, but it was new in 1938. 999s may have been all green and yellow by then. It currently sets in the back corner of the Morton building, unused, as there is a broken casting down by the runner, and it's just got general wear and tear on it. My grandmother refuses to part with it, and I'm not certain I can restore it, so I guess it'll be there for a few more years . . . .
