What pto hp is required? Are they inherently troublesome?
What is a fair price for one that might need repair and are parts still available?

I have a 268 which is probably just about the same. I bought at auction for 250.00 and put another 50.00 to 75.00 into it. Its been a great baler. Op manual says it will work with a one or two bottom plow tractor, it doesn't list HP. I started using it with a Ford 2N tractor (20-25 HP) and it worked fine. I now use it with a Ford 861 for the live PTO. Your local Ford New Holland dealer can get about any part you need for that baler. Hope this helps.

I have a New Holland 269 baler and pull it with a 60 hp. John Deere 2030 with no problem (no thrower). They make really good bales and parts availability has not been a problem for me.

Mr Loco I still use an old 268 NH. Last year we made close to 7000 bales with it. It makes a nice square bale and can pack them as hard as a brick if you wish. No problem getting parts from my local NH dealer. This baler runs behind my Ford 2600 32hp with no trouble at all, but it has no thrower. Price in this area would be in the 500-800 dollar range in good, clean, working condition. Hope this info helps Roy

You need 45 or more hp to pull one, parts are still available, cost I wouldn't guess at, but they wouldn't be very high.
