Just bought a Cole #40 1 row HD corn planter. Previous owner says he thinks he bought it in 1947. The little thing is in remarkable shape. The paint is still mostly intact and the decals on the galvanized seed hopper are still readable, though faded and cracked. The model number is painted on the handles. The handles are solid and in great shape. The mechanism is still operational. Here is the problem...only one seed plate. Does any one know where I can get additional plates??

I spoke with a very nice lady at Powell Mfg. named Marlene. She said to send her the numbers off the seed plate and she will try to find me some that will work. Thanks for the help everyone!

I have about 5 of these units. One has been adapted to hitch behind a Super A. I also have a assortment of the plates. Note there are two sizes of Cole plates. Your planter probably takes the large plates. I have two Iron Age one row planters with Cole planter units that take the smaller plate.. These units are still made by Powell Mfg. Co. Inc. , PO box 707, Bennettsville , NC 29512-0707. They are called the 12MX MultiFlex Planting System and are designed to fit a 3 point hitch. I saw one the these planter about 2 weeks ago at the Mid-Atlantic Farm Show in Goldboro NC.

I have a duplex cole planter, I contacted Powell and was told they will only sell through a dealer. They will tell you the part # for all the types of plates that you can use. I have about 40 that I got from my Neihbor. I have a watermelon, various beans, lots of different corn plates. With a duplex planter, each side spins in different directions. You can plant twice as long for corn (without refilling the seed chambers) or two types of seeds at the same time. Call Powell, they are on the internet and get the seed plate chart from them.

happy planting.
