Anybody ever had any luck freeing a stuck drive shaft? My brush hog PTO drive shaft is stuck. I do not see any noticeable twist, but I do not think that it is rusted either. It is one of the Italian shafts with a complicated looking profile.I would like to avoid the expense of a new shaft.
TIA,
Mike

i had one like that. the shaft was a triangle with bowed sides. the twist was very slight but we couldnt get it apart with anything, even when we put it in the press(fancy jig work on that one ended up buying a new one.

My guess is that the shaft is O.k. and that were it is locked up at is in the gearbox. Is there any gear oil in it? Loosen the square plug on the back of the gear box and if fill it until it starts to pour out. I used regular Valvoline gear oil in mine, seems to be fine. Hope this helps.

The box is fine. The shaft will not extend or retract.

tie one end to the barn and use a chain and tractor on the other end or else use a come-a-long.It will come apart.
