Anyone have a part number for rake teeth?

How about details on the rake wheel bearings. Looks like they have worn badly.

Is it really a Farmhand rake?

It must be agco New Idea, not New Holland

Take an old tooth to a farm supply store they may be able to match it. Is this one of the newer rakes with the long curved teeth. bearings can be purchased at the dealer or take one to a industrial supply house or auto supply sometimes they can offer a better price. Many implements are manuf. by a co. and then painted different colors. A lot of the newer wheel rakes are of foreign manuf.

Haven't got it home yet. The teeth are relatively short double wire spring teeth canted to one side. When the drifts melt, I'll get it home and make that trek to the nearest farm stores with a sample in hand. The bearings are sleeve bearings, so I may have to weld in new shafts and bore the wheels for bushings.

There is a spring tooth catalog on the internet but it has only New Holland tooth part numbers, not rake model numbers and the factory hasn't responded to my request for model match.

The current New Holland web page doesn't admit to making wheel rakes, but then its not Avco its Agco these days.

Gerald, the reason you didn't find anything on the New Holland site is because Avco never owned them. New Idea was owned by Avco, now by Agco. I have seen many New Idea wheel rakes in Pennsylvania. You should use the dealer locator at www.agcocorp.com to find the nearest NI dealer.
also check out www.sloanex.com and get a catalog. They list wheel rake teeth, with applications, for many manufacturers and models. Sloan also might have sleeve bearings.

You mean to say that neither I nor the used implement dealer read New Holland on the name tag correctly but should have read New IDEA? I'll have to get that rake home and look closer. There's a New Idea 403 rake mentioned in several lists of rake teeth.

I think I found Sloan Express with an Alta Vista search and asked for a catalog about 9 days ago. So far I've not noticed it in the incoming mail.

New Holland may have sold a wheel rake while NH was owned by Sperry. If so, it definitely would not have said Avco anywhere on it. BTW, did you notice if it said Coldwater, Ohio on the plate?

The nameplate definitely says AVCO/NEW idea... I just checked the sale bill, it says new IDEA. So I've been remembering wrong. There was a lot on the nameplate, mostly patent numbers.

The rake wheels have sleeve bearings, probably steel on steel and show a lot of wear. It has a swinging tongue and carrying wheels outside the raking width. I've not seen the front of the tongue, it was under a couple feet of snow.

I see rake teeth specifice for 403 and 405 rakes, but not 404 and those for 403 and 405 are single while these are double and angled, like those for a farmhand rake. I see CT shows universal rubber mounted teeth that might fit. I'll take a good set off once I get it home and go visit stores. There's an old time New Idea dealer about 12 miles east of where I bought the rake also. Might be a good source of information.

Gerald,

Definitely sounds like an Avco New Idea rake. Try getting a Shoup catalog they have lots of rake teeth and they give the different dimensions in their catalog. They show single rake teeth for New Idea rakes #'s49, 400, 401, 402, 403, 405, 405H. They also show a double toothed one used on New Idea balers and a double toothed one for Farmhand rakes. I do not think Shoup has a web site but you can call them at 1-(800)-627-6137. They are in Kankakee, Illinois.

Home this is of some help !

Have several Shoup catalogs including the latest. Doesn't show the double tooth arrangment on my rake except like the Farmhand teeth. There's no way the single tooth arrangement will fit my rake.
