Are there any ag machines that use a chevy gas engine hooked to a off road allison transmission? I need to do this and would like to buy the part rather than reinventing the wheel....Thanks

Carl-- Uni-Harvester used a 292 chev in one of there older machines, then went to a GMC v6, then went to diesels. New Idea made the Uni Harvester for years as a universal harvesting machine which had a horse (power plant on wheels) then you could add a shucking bed or various other attactments for harvesting. TIM-- they only put 292chev engines in JD combines to my knowledge, thought I would throw that in to maybe save some confussion when asking questions. luckydog

I have a massey ferg. 410 combine about 36 years old with a 292 chevy straight 6 cyl. runs perfect and never been touched except for oil and filter changes. it has a governor on the fan belt.

Allis Chalmers used various Chevrolet engines in some of their gas powered Gleaner combines. I also think White used a 400 Chevy in their gas 8800 combine. These were all hooked up to their own transmissions usually through a belt system though.

Allis used the Chevy 250 and 292 engines in combines. You may find some data by looking in that area. I believe the governor was off the belt. HTH, Dave

There was an article on the YTMag home page about a fella restoring an old JD combine that had a chevy 292 engine. Don't know what tranny was used. The article appeared about 6-8 months ago (or more).

I believe they were 350s in those machines. I think Gleaner L gas used the 350 engine as well. One of the Deere combines used a 350, but can't remember it it was the 6600 or 7700 gas.

Hi! we had a 500 massey with the 350, and quite a few 300s with the 225 slant six chryslers. I don't mean to get off the subject but the industials I have delt with, mostly chryslers, had
different bolt pattern on the crankshaft, for my use it made putting a flywheel built for a clutch
expensive, either in machine work or a new crankshaft. I'm not saying chevy is like that but
it's something to look into, fwiw. dave.
