Bale net wrap question

You people seem quite knowledgeable about baling. I have a question about the net wrap that some balers use instead of twine - How does it "hold together"? Does it stick to itself? Does it stick to the hay? Most baler manufacturers suggest wrapping the bale 1-1/2 - 2 times with the netting. Not talking about the white stuff used to make balage - again, I mean the netting that some balers use in place of twine.
Thank you for your time,
- Jim H.

I have JD 435 with net wrap. I make about 2800 bales a year and would not go back to twine. The net wrap costs me about $1.00 a bale. Bales hold together better than twine wrapped. It took me a little time to learn how to use it. I learned to keep it lubed with corn starch. JD has some special lube but corn starch works as good or better. It's easier to get it off the bales in freezing conditions, too. I don't know anyone around here who has used net wrapped who would go back.

My brother in law has net wrap and it basically sticks to the material you are baling and somewhat to itself. When you take it off you just start unwrapping it like a Christmas present.

Thanks, grm. But I really want to know is does it stick to itself? How well? Like Velcro? Or is it "gluey"? Does it stick to the hay? Thanks for your input!

the hay that sticks up traps the wrap...we bale about 3500 to 4000 a year..when you haul hay out of field, you carry all the hay out of the field ,,when you feed hay you carry it all to the pasture...even 2 years later..it rots little the wrap is designed so that it carries water down the main strings..as far as to cost..while you are sitting there runnning the tractor a pto speed to tie one and time it takes from you...it is well worth it..have run 30 to 32 bales per hour with 566 baler..your bales are neater and you finish up faster..we run twin v rake..2 disc mowers..one on a 401B and one on 2840..can ususally bale in one day what we can cut using wrap..great stuff
