I am seeking to identify and obtain manual and parts for an old, old JD disk planter. Unit is a tow-behind the tractor type with 5 disks. A long seed box is mounted over the disks with a seed drop over each disk. Roller chain on sprocket on end disk drives a seed stirrer and drop mechanism that is integral with the bottom of the seed box. A large lever extends from mechanism on right end (facing forward of tractor) to the left end, which adjusts up and down. Left front is a steel wheel with traction bars at an angle. Right front is an adjustable track angle steel wheel with sharp edge. left rear is a hand crank for adjustment of depth? and a large heavy sharp wheel with weights in center. Some part numbers on heavy rear wheel area are: P480A,M638, m895a, m641a, m894a, ETC. ETC. Please advise how to identify this unit - it is still mostly in working order and begs to be restored and used!

Sterling: I'm guessing this is a one-way disk with a seeding attachment for spring wheat as used in N. Dakota, Montana, maybe Minnesota and Canada. Those of us in the Corn Belt and south have only seen pictures of such implements. Where did you find this rig and where do you live? Mike Iowa

Found this implement in South Texas where I live. Perhaps spring wheat in your part of country is winter wheat here.

Sterling, It appears Mike is right on the money, I checked the casting numbers you gave and they are for a disk tiller or one way disc. I have a #260 which has 6 discs and is on rubber tires in front and the same heavy cast wheel with heavy cast weights on both sides at the rear. I have never seen one with the seeding attachment but have seen pictures. I would start by getting a parts catalog, available from JD it is number: PC 255. The only seeding attachment catalog I see listed is PC 200 and Owner man OM W12-550 but these are listed for later disk tillers and might not apply to yours. I would say you have a Model 250 disk tiller. Hope this helps a bit :) Bob
