I'm in the market to buy a used bush hog. i found a used 6' king cutter 80 HP for $995 at a tractor store. It looked like it was in good shape and not used much. Is this a reasonable price.

I ordered the 6' - 80HP Gearbox, w-slipclutch, KingKutter unit for $1650. New. It weighs about 1150 lbs, has a 3/16" deck. Extremely heavy duty unit with 8" I-beam side rails. A similar John Deere hog unit would cost over $3500. I'd buy it! Go lowball...you can always go up!

I bought the 6' -40HP -KingKutter unit, because I couldn't wait for the 80hp order to come in. I put this 40hp unit through everything...it cuts it! Good luck. If the deal was is in upstate NY, I'd buy the 80hp.

I think KingKutter is a "sleeper" implement ag line. Excellent quality for a more than reasonable price.

Is that maybe Canadian? I bought a 5' new last year for about $500. That's really high if it's American. But as far as quality, I looked at several and King-Kutter was better reinforced than some of better known brands I've seen. Festus

I purchased the $500, 5' King-Kutter on sale last summer too.
Could not be happier with it.
Was bragging to an old farmer (friend of the family) about it at the local flea market one Saturday. I told him that I had been hogging some overgrown acreage with it and that I had been rolling over and cutting stuff up to 1 1/2 inches with it behind my 8N. He looked at me like I was nuts. Said he wanted to see that, so we headed to my house and I showed it to him. He looked it up and down. Said that it was a heck of a lot better built than they used to be, but that there was no way I was doing what I said with it.
I fired up the N and took her for 2 passes straight through an alder thicket with brush taller than me when standing on the boards. He shook his head and told me that it was a good thing I didn't know what I was doing, because it wasn't possible to do that with an 8N...

:-)

We need to word are initials a little bit different so people don't get us mixed up. I'm leaning towards "Clod-hopper" as a nickname.
If you plan to cut any brush stay away from King Kutter bushogs and their other implements as well. King Kutters are thin, cheap junk. I know of at least 2 or 3 people who bought them and wished that hadn't. They are probaly fine for a lawn that hasn't been mowed in a year(that's about it) but not a field of brush. If you are a little patient a good old Bushog will come up for sale at a farm auction. That will be cheaper than $995( maybe around $500-$600) and better quality. The 80 hp. you are talking about is the maxximum, it only takes around 30 hp to power a 6'.

I agree that the price is to high, but I've had a king kutter for 5 years. It was used when I bought
it, it has always cut anything the tractor would ride down trees rocks whatever. I think thye make 2 models a cheap 1 and a good 1, or maybe I just found a good 1. Jeff W

I bought a Field General a few years ago, used, for 500 Canadian. I use it with my TE 20 Ferguson and am very happy with it.
