I just got an old 8ft. pull behind tandom disk. Is there a way to convert it to a 3pt. mount? I got a welder and a torch just want to know if anyone has ever done it and what problems they ran into.

A couple of thoughts here. First, the weight is a concern - I wouldn't like to pick up an 8' disc with my A-C B! Second, turning is definitely difficult, as the gangs do not like to be pulled sideways. A couple of ideas - Most 3 point discs have the gangs at a fixed angle. Pick the angle, then unbolt the individual gangs and move them as close as possible to each other, and build the frame over them. THis will help move the weight forward and decrease its leverage on your tractor (note: check for tire clearance).
If you want to have the angle adjustable, pick the greatest angle and repeat above, but put the gangs on such that the front can be rotated around the center rear bolt (swung rearward to decrease the angle) and the rear can be pivoted forward around the front center bolt. Then drill holes at the positions you want. Or, make a frame that just covers them, and use U-bolts or homemade hanger clamps to bolt the gangs to the frame.
Either way, be sure to use the float posiion, and you might want to make the upper top mount a slider to let the gangs change angle as they float. Of course, the other advantage is that if the upper mount is fixed, you can change which gang attacks the sould hardest (especially if you have power down pressure).

Try to leave as much "float" built in as possible. That is, when it is lifted as high as it will go you only need to have the back gangs maybe 4" off the ground.

My son modified 8 ft. disc to 3pt. We use on JD60. Works good. Level it front to back with top link. Put hydrolic lift in float. There is not much give to it so have to lift it up to turn.Hope this helps you J. R.

I have a couple of concerns here, I haven't tried a disc but have done a bog harrow. The first concern is the amount of weight you are going to be lifting and the amount of counter weight you will need on the front of the tractor. Secondly most of the drag discs have floating frames and to get adequate rear lift you would need to brace to the back 1/2 of the tandem. This would defeat you floatation. I would want at least 80 hp with 1000-1200# of front weights before trying it. Good luck, let me know how it works.

chris, the weight shouldn't be a great concern. I hav a neighbor who has a ford i believe 8 or 9n with the same unit on it. he has no problem with the unit other than with turning. turning must be out of the ground. it is a stright unit out of the factory with no weight added.
