I have a older 60" howard rotavator. This unit has a engage, disengage lever on the unit itself.
I have a probblem with the lever disengageing ever couple of hundred feet. I have thought of locking the lever in place with a c clamp. Is there any harm in doing this? Any other tips on using this rotavator would be appreciated. Thanks

I have 2 Howard Rotovators. They are very well built machines, and have taken many years of hard use. I'm hopeing my friend Peter will post an answer for you. He is my Howard dealer, and very knowledgable! BTW, i was talking to a Howard rep. a few weeks ago about the "severe use" rotor blades. Anyone here tried them? He said they last a lot longer, even though they do cost more! I'm thinking of trying some. Robert

Hi I wonder if I can ask you for some help? I live in England and a friend has a Howard machine and he has asked if i can find out some info for him. The machine is a Howard (Jem?) Product No 964732701 Batch No 8113 with a Kohler engine. He is really after a manual for this machine as he is looking to restore it.

If you have any info I would be obliged and pass it on to him

WONDER IF ANYONE HAS GOT SOME INFO ON THE HOWARD ROTOVATOR "GEM" WITH THE J.A.P. ENGINE. MY PRIMARY CONCERN AT THIS POINT IS POSITION AND TIMING OF THE MAGNETO. ANY TUNE-UP SPECS WOULD BE HELPFUL.

I work in a local museum in Maldon & have been given a Knackered small rotovator to tidy the grounds. The dog clutch to the tines is badly worn & I want to remove it & overhaul. How do i rermove the front part of the drive shaft & driving pulleys? The machinr has a Briggs & Stratton engine---the only clue to its age perhaps

If it has a slip clutch, keep it adjusted properly. I learned this after replacing $400 worth of chain, bearings and sprockets on mine.

And if you do need parts, get as many as you can (bearings, chain) from NAPA. You DO NOT want to pay Howard prices if you can avoid it...":^(

My control lever was tied up with baling twine until the cows started playing with it this Winter.

I don't have much in the way of advice other than keeping everything greased, oiled, and check for loose tines or other stray bolts when you use it.

I guess also the standard disclaimer... don't hog it and it will last longer. If things are straining I just lighten up and make another pass later.
