I just found a Fairbanks-Morse Hammermill underneath a partially collapsed machinery shed on a farm nearby. It's got a little surface rust on it, looks to be complete, and doesn't seem to have suffered any damage from the collapse of the building (the AC All-Crop 66 next to it took the brunt of it - a shame). I've never seen an F-M mill before. Anybody know anything about these mills? I'm tempted to pull it out and belt it up to the F-20.

Tim,

I have spent many hours shoveling corn and oats through our F-M hammermill. We modified ours so that it would blow the ground feed directly into our granary. Although we still have it we don't use it much anymore, as we have only one tractor left (a Farmall M) that has the required pully drive. The device makes a lot of noise, and I would suggest ear protection if you intend to use it for an extended time.

We fixed up a hammermill last summer and used it for a thresher show. It grinds up corn and cobs real well depending upon the screen that is used.
Check to see if you can find those semi-sherical heavy steel screens. They should be somewhere close by the machine.

We have a F-M hammermill in really good shape, my dad used it for years to grind cattle feed. You can grind hay in with the corn, pretty much mix it up however you want it. It's flat belt driven, takes a tractor PTO to pull it. Dad used an AC D-15 PTO, but any tractor with a flat PTO would pull it. I think he even used our old Super A International at some point.
