After years of consistent use with a sickle mower, my brother and I have decided to buy a new 9 foot disc mower for our alfalfa business. What is the best to buy? Does anyone know about the Kuhn brand? Thanks for all the help.

Clayton,
I have had a New Holland 462 mower for 3 years. It was made by Kuhn. After you use a disc mower for a little while, you will want to throw rocks at your sickle mower. You let the blades down when you pull into a field and don't raise it until you finish. If it is set correctly, it will not clog. You could even use a tractor with no reverse. Kuhn is possibly the best on the market.
Good cutting.

Speaking of rocks, I have heard disc mowers are not good in rocky ground. But I have no experience with them, & sickle mowers aren't fun in rocky ground either.....

I have a New Idea 5407 3pt disc mower. Very nice
unit, fast and cuts thur anything. It takes a lot
more power to run the disc over the sickle. My
only complaint is it is very heavy on the 3pt so
the front of the tractor is hard to control on
any type of hillside. My next disc will be a tow
behind with conditioning. Kuhn is reported to be
very good and I know someone who loves Vicon. The
blades are cheap to buy and easy to sharpen or
replace.
