I just found a 3-section(about 9 foot) spring tooth harrow in my neighbors woods. It has no paint left on it but it looks just like one in my 150 years of International Harvester book by C.H Wendel on page 178. It says it was made from 1919-1948. Some of the numbers on it say P956. All of the points are rounded off so can I sharpen them with a side grinder? I plan to restore it after planting season.

Would you like a copy of owners - parts manual, teeth would depend on type of tooth, never saw any McCormic with replaseable points, new teeth would dig better but they were never sharpened as they would just keep on working until completly wore out.

A lot of spring tooth harrows had replacable shovels that bolted on the end of the spring. Are there mounting holes on your springs?

I think there are mounting holes F14, I haven't dragged it out of the woods yet but I will check just as soon as it stops snowing. I don't think I can reverse the springs on this one. I looked at new spring points and they are about $8 each. 20 shovels at $8 will end up costing me $160. Maybe I could find a pile of them at a auction somewhere for a couple bucks. I would like to try it out a bit later on this spring if I can find the springs. Thanks for responding guys.

They were also made to turn over and use the other end. If you lucky one end will still be good. You can buy new ones but replacing all of them runs into some money.
