That don't sound bad after seeing some prices said fot them on the board . Just one question what do I look for as far as machinics.obviously I cant use it to see if it works good .....Thanks in advance

By drag type do you mean it has a dolly wheel or is it semi integral w/jackstand? The rakes with the dolly wheel are a lot more popular. Around here, it's not uncommon for good 4-bar, dolly wheel 640s to go for $1500 so $995 sounds good, especially if it is at a John Deere Dealer. As for what to check, I would try and count to see how many teeth are bent or missing, I'd spin the reels by hand to see if there are any bumps or scrapes, and I'd give the reel a shake or two to see how tight the bearings were. There are two cranks that adjust the basket height which could be bent, and check the rear tires. Rakes are near bullitproof. Apart from being involved in a collision and getting bent into a pretzel about the only way to cause one to be really "worn out" would be to go several years without grease in the zerks.
