After recently purchasing a 731 J.D. hay rake which is hydraulic powered,(no pto or ground drive)to pull with my 3600 Ford which has no remote hydraulics. What options do I have on connecting to the hydraulic system, other than purchasing an expensive Ford remote system?

Try NorthernTool.com, I think they have a on-line catalog. I am reffering to the catalog they sent me,especially the hydraulics section(page 45) and check out the "Prince" PTO tractor pump. You slip this pump on your pto shaft and it powers it for two hydraulic outlets. You can get the choice of a 11.4,21. or 23 GPM (gallons per minute) pump for $321.99 +s&h. They also have one you can mount in-line with a belt coming off of the engine instead of the pto for $329.99-$339.00. Hope this helps.

Bruce, I'm not familiar with your models of tractor or rake, but this is how I got hydraulics on back of my 8-n. I had a bosch hyd. pump that I got cheap, we turned it around inside so it would run right direction for p.t.o. application. Then had neighbor, who is machinist, build adapter for p.t.o. and then some plumbing,I now have hyd. whenever p.t.o. shaft turns. To use in hay field, some type of shield would have to be added so hay would'nt be wrapping around pump and p.t.o.. I don't know what kind of clearance you need back there, but this whole set-up sticks out maybe a foot. Just a thought, my whole thing cost me under $200.00, but I got the pump real cheap.

I've seen Sweet Tractor selling brand new Ford remote kits on e-bay for around $340.00. I think they have a website. I'll look. However, I don't know if the 3600 can provide constant power beyond with its hydraulic system. It may only be capable of up and down cylinder operation. There really is no such thing as low-budget hydraulics.

Not at all familiar with your tractor or rake, but the rake no doubt requires a certain pressure and flow to work correctly. Too little or too much of either will cause problems. First best step is to get the information about the required hydraulic supply for the rake. Then the choice will be to arrange for your tractor to somehow supply that volume and pressure OR to convert the rake for mechanical drive from the PTO.
