I Bought a J.D. 24t last spring. It's baling fine with the twine I'm using, but the twine looks bad to me, all twisted up and wrinkly and frayed. Where and what brand of hemp twine is best? Thanks

I think it's more how fresh the twine is than the brand name. Along with that, try to find out if what you're buying was "stashed" (to coin a phrase) down in the cellar over the winter or is just in from Brazil.

Go for the fresh stuff, dude.

You make a good point - damp twine doesn't work in any baler. Also, watch twine that has set over the winter in your baler - mice love to over winter in it and they can mess up a whole ball making it useless.

I've had pretty good luck with most brands, I think it depends on your knotters - if they are working good, it should work out.

I think you want sisal twine, haven't seen hemp? Would make burning the twine a whole new experience....

Bgee, i've seen New Holland twine that had very little twist and looked ragged, but was as strong or stronger as other brands that had lots of twist. i think its a function of how long the fiber is. short fibers need more twist to be as strong as long fibered twine. long fiber cost the producer more. i round bale so i purchase the cheapest sisal. to me plastic is a pollutant, i will not allow it on the farm again. anyway i try to alternate different colored twine, that gives me an idea how many balls i've been through.

Where DO you get hemp twine? Around here it's either plastic or sisal. Nothing else. I use plastic myself, as my customers prefer it (go figure?)
