Being new to this tractor stuff i have another question. I just bought a boom pole from TSC and hooked it up to my farmall H. The problem is I can not get it to go as high as i need. Would a shorter top link make it come up higher. I have a sagnaw three point. all coments would help.

Yes, a shorter top link will help. I have the same piece and after a few trial and error experiences I kinda got the hang of the thing. I have used it for a lot of different things. About the heaviest was an engine out of my 944. Like with any other equipment a little common sense goes a long way.

To answer your question, yes.

The longer answer is that boom poles are kinda dangerous, and messing around with the 3-point linkage plus making the boom even higher will make it more dangerous - possibly quite unstable, tip the tractor over on top of you, crush you into a sloppy mushy pancake which your family can't even identify. Perhaps you want to re-evaluate your needs, and buy something that will safely do what you need done.

Take your pick on answers. :) Since you didn't say what you are attempting to lift, I won't make any judgements, and I offer this advise with no liablity on my part.

Paul,
Thanks for your concern. I have opreated heavy equipment for twenty five years and know every thing that you say is true. What i want the boom for is I have a bad back plus i am just lifting small things like a dirt bucket out of the back of my powerstroke or a brush hog off of my trailer.

Sounds good. :) All kinds of people read these messages, I get an e-mail concerning messages I left here 2 years ago! So, figured I better mention it both ways, for whomever is reading. I'm going to lift a 3-point cement mixer out of my Ram with mine as soon as this rain quits!

The hydraulic cylinder deal is handy, I haven't used one, but would like to. If your tractor has a remote outlet.

My upper link is a hydraulic cylinder with 10" rod travel. Really makes a difference in the range of travel of the pole. Saves putting on the loader or cranking the Bobcat sometimes. Most 10" travel cylinders are too long when closed to be useful for the upperlink. I got lucky and found one that works. It is as short when closed as the standard upper link is at minimum length. Most upper link cylinder units for sale have a 8" travel cylinder.

That sounds interesting. Did you find a commercial unit, or did you happen upon a one-of-a-kind cylinder & make your own? I've been meaning to get one for the round bale forks, and boom pole I own.

(See, I wasn't judging the guy - just pointing out what can go wrong if you're not thinking all the time. :)

yeah, it does pay to think. Today i decided to till small plot in back yard with 5 hp tiller that i had to go get from son.knew ground was still soft from last year and would just take a little while. got to wishing i had my d14 here at home pretty quick. made me think of the time i reinstalled lawnmower blades up-side-down and cut two lawns (about 4 times each i think)before i realized what i had done! Then i thought, "wait a minute!" Sure enough the outer tines were reversed! was about half way through at this point. still a little shook up here! :(
