I am going to planting several acres of hickory king white corn soon. (next week maybe).

I have the area just about completly plowed and was wondering about the set up for the trctor and planter.

I have a farmall 140 with a cole high speed duplex planter. Do I (or should I) use some type of sweeps on the cultivator bars to make hills down the rows when I plant. If so what type of sweeps work best. I also have the front (mid mounted) fertilizer spreader (drop type) and wonder if I should let the fertilizer drop down the middle or off to each side.

thankx

I'm used to JD 7000 planters, which is a little different - but be careful putting fertilizer directly on top of, or in the seed furrow. The seed does not like much of any fert, especially N, touching it. They recommend starter fert placed 2" to the side, & 2" deeper, than the seed if you are using a big amount of starter.

you can flat plant and drop the fertlizer on the sides. when you cultivate then some of the soil will hill around the corn stalk.
