I have an AC no-till that when up the press wheels are not far enough off the ground maybe 2'' they will drag at times or when in stubble willturn and plant. Any suggestions on making changes to get more clearance?

Hi Bill, check and make sure the rails that run on either side of the planter in the same direction as your wheels are tight. They have long bolts that clamp them to the beams that carry the weight. Sometimes the clamps will break and need some welding and bracing. The tongue has two big clamps that fasten it to the beams. These sometimes break or get loose. Tighten every bolt on the frame of that planter. If that doesn't do the trick there is one more thing. Try my suggestions and it this doen't work, get back to the board and I will try to describe the other thing.Hope this helps ya. Steve

Steve thanks for your suggestions. Ihave checked all frame bolts torque also the unit linkage there is very little wear here. It just seems like there is a lot of lift in the frame before the units start to lift then the cylinders are fully extended before the unit is very far off the ground.

Bill, another thing you can do is to get someone to raise and lower the planter while you look very closely at a single unit while it raises and lowers. Notice where your frame actually makes contact with the planter to raise it. I think each unit has two points. These two contact points can be worn down. It is a little difficult to get to with a welder, but you can do it. You might have to bend your electrode to get to the points and build them up maybe a quarter of an inch. That little bit will make a big difference in the distance the press wheel raises. Take a look; this might be your problem. It didn't completely solve mine, but it did help. I had to take my chains off to transport down the roads. All my hoppers would be empty if I didn't. After I tightened every bolt, did some welding, and built up those points, my wheels now raise about 12 inches. Hope this is of some value to you.

If the cylinder(s) are extending all the way, change the hitch geometry to lower the front of the planter. Be sure not to upset the attitude of the planter when planting. Most planters should run level fore/aft when in the ground.
