Got this thing on a trade for some A\C work last year and just got it running. Seems to run great for a 1973 model but it seems to be leaking gear oil from the axles. Is there a trick to getting these in and out Model is HH60105079E..... SERIAL 3011D.....I'm in the process of getting a manual of it but they had to order it. Just curious if anybody has had one of these What is your thoughts on it..... .. Thanks in advance

Forget getting the wheels off. If they aren't removed every year or so and the axles cleaned and oiled before reinstalling the wheels they are not coming off ever. Keep the oil topped up and work the sucker. If you must replace the seals buy a new axle 1st then cut the old on the side opposite to the way it must be withdrawn. If yuor'e lucky you can get the axles pressed out of the wheels and won't have to buy new wheels too. The manual is excellent and these tillers were made to be worked on.

My Dad bought a 6hp model back around 81 or so. I can't help you with your question but maybe someone can tell me how to get the wheels removed. One of my Dad's is warped and I have tried everything I can think of to remove it except heating it and I can't get it to budge. By the way I did knock out the roll pin that goes through the wheel hub and the drive shaft. Any help appreciated.

Congrats you have obtained on of the finest pieces of equipment ever made. These puppies are designed as good as anything I have ever worked on. BTW That unit is still under warranty and I know this because I called the factory last year for some bearings that are in the rear tine drive and was explaining what the problem was when the PARTS Ordering person stopped me and said that I needed to talk to one of the technicians before I ordered any parts. Talked to the tech and he said the real cause of my problem was something I has not looked at. He explained that it waw covered under warranty but the bad news was that I had to ship it to the factory to get it repaired. Mounted it on a pallet, called a trucking company and shipped it to NY. I got a call on the third day and the tech told me that he had it torn down completely and he would replace my old parts or if I would spend an additional ~$50 he would replace the seals and 2 bearings that needed replacing. Totally rebuild for less than the $70 shipping.

Anyhow unless the leaked oil is a problem on that boy for where you store it, don't worry about it. Just keep the oil topped off. If you do want to repair it I strongly recommend calling the factory for parts and information.

I'm putting a new rear gear, shaft and bearings in my '79 model right now. I found these guys on the web, might be of interest to Troy-bilt owners. They have a lot of obsolete parts that the factory no longer stocks.
