How do you measure a set of Disk harrows? I just got a RWA JD set. The man said its a 10 footer. I just was wondering .

I thought it was just the overall width of the disk before it was rotated for disking. Could be wrong.

Good question: I've been around and interested in farm machinery since I could walk, and I am not sure how they come up with the width description of a tandem disk.
I think it would be the width of the front plus the width of the back gang divided by two. But I am not sure. I know this for sure: When your disk was new John Deere described it as some precise number such as 9'6" or 10'4. And I know farmers in those days called the smaller one a 10-foot and the wider one a 10-and-half footer. Mike-Io

I have a JD RWA and on the RWA the gangs are NOT adjustable and it is actually 9'-10" for the farthest outside points but I always call it a 10 foot. I plan to give it a fresh coat of paint and decals this summer, and also make some new weight pans. It is a pretty good lightweight disk.
