I'm looking to buy a backhoe attachment for my
JD 5210. The cost for the 862 I'm looking at is 6300.00. I'm concerned about how well the backhoe will perform. Any feed back from anyone who has used any type backhoe attachment will be greatly appreciated.

I've got an ARPS 730 3 pt backhoe for my SMTA. It's too heavy for my tractor, can't keep the front end on the ground when I'm moving. By the way, it's for sale, $1600.00.

I have a JD 5310 tractor with a JD 10A backhoe. This backhoe attaches to a frame under the tractor, takes about 20 min to install/remove. It runs off the tractor hyd with a "power beyond" device. It is much more stable than a three point BH and is very strong. I got it with a 18" bucket and use it in heavy clay with stumps. It works great and supprises me sometimes with what it will dig up. The only problem I have is the ground clearance. I have turff tires which reduces my clearance to about 8 inches. Sometimes I have to use the BH to drag the tractor into an area where I want to dig.

When I bought mine it came with a 5GPM pto pump. VERY VERY slow. I was very bumbed out. So I ran it off my tractors 8.5gpm pump and have been pleased ever since.

Not anywhere near the size of unit you're talking about, but I have a 3-point hitch mounted backhoe, and it has worked very well, with no problems or disappointments. I hear good things about the Bush Hog unit, you should be quite happy with it.
