Replaced the belt on a neighbor's PT-10. I put the idler pulley under the belt because that seemed to be the logical place. The belt has jumped out of the grooves and is rubbing against the wall.

Should I have put the idler on top, or is there some other secret to keeping the belt in the groove.

JD, I have a PT-7 which I think is the same.
Starting at the rearmost pulley(V-side in grooves)
then up over the idler(flat side on pulley),down
under the lower roller pulley(V-side in grooves)
then over the upper roller sheave(flat side against sheave) to the uppermost pulley(V-side in the
grooves) over and back down to the rearmost pulley
I hope you can translate this but if you have any
questions, ask. Good luck, Unimog.

Thanks. That is how I have the belt installed on the PT-10 but it won't stay in the groves.

JD, i just found my pt-10 manual, it added that the rear idler spring needs to be tightened until there is a "1 inch gap between the top of tension idler shaft and lower end of spring stop." it also notes that when installing a new belt to move the front idler to the rear most holes (there are three sets of holes). let me know if i can be of any help. cut about 15 ac. with my pt-10 today.
