My wife was over to the local Farm and Fleet store reciently and picked up some Lincoln baler twine #350. I've never used it before on our NH 78 baler and was wondering if anyone has used the stuff. I don't want to invite problems by using an off brand. I've been using NH twine which is about $6 more. Thanks. (I live in centeral Illinois and we have been getting rain about every other day. I have yet to cut my field of alfalfa. The crop is laying over now and it looks like it's going to be a real problem mowing it with a sickle bar mower. Sure could use some dry weather).

I think the two big things are that it's the 9000 foot version of twine and that it's FRESH. You do not want something that somebody has stored for a year or two.

Other than that there probably is not a lot of difference in the stuff. At least over the years, there didn't seem to be in the JD 14T, NH 66 and 68 that we've used at various times.

Hi, I have run all brands of square bale 9,000 in my JD 337 with no problem. I have use QT Farm and Country, Southern States, and Tractor Supply's brands. Its even better when I catch a sale and pay $19.00. Bill

I agree with Big Jim, as long as you are using "square baler" twine, you shouldn't have a problem, I had some serious issues as I first bought the 16,000 feet, ball, and it knotted up pretty bad. I also have heard about problems with using the plastic twine. with my JD 14T baler, I just use clean up the knotters of any surface rust witha emery board each summer and it keeps working away. I also with you I have yet to bale my hay, I do 20 acres and 40 of neighbors on shares... I had one good weekend during memorial day, and I guess I should have done it then,, been raining every other day since..

Joe, it's been tough here in SW MO. We didn't get any rain when we needed it, and now you can't make hay due to the rain. The yield on hay in this area is horrible this year. Most folks report only getting a third to half of what they normally get off their fields. I did ten acres Tuesday and last year the field made 98 round bales. This year it made 25. :-(

that was the story last year, I live near KC, and everyone only got about 1/3 of what they normally got, this year looks better, but with all the rain, we cant cut. I hope to get it cut soon.

Any brand of twine will work. I am presuming that a NH 78 is a square baler. Make sure you are using square baler twine (9,000 feet per ball) instead of round baler twine (16,000 feet per ball). Otherwise, if your knotter is good, you shouldn't have a problem.
