I just inherited from my father-in-law: 2 John Deere 494A 4-row corn planters. One is in very good condition and the other is fair-good(surface rusty). I also have counted 24 sets of plastic and metal plates with them, should I sell them seperate? I also got a John Deere 10' RWA disk that has just been completely restored. And a IH 45 baler that is in good condition except for faded paint. Also a Massey-Ferguson 12 baler in good condition. And a 7' pull-behind IH sickle mower in good shape and A IH 3- 14" fasthitch plow in good condition. Seem to be a handfull of IH balers in this area since this area is almost solid IH. But no 45's. I have no use for any of these implements or a good place to keep them out of the weather for that matter so I am going to sell them. How much do you think everything is worth seperately(including the planter plates)? Everything was kept in the barn except one of the planters set outside for a couple years.
Thanks for your time.

Depends where you are. In New Jersey and Pennsylvania, there are a lot of part timers who are looking for stuff like that. In Kansas and Nebraska, that size stuff probably isn't much in demand. If you were close to where I live, I'd buy both planters.

Where you located? I may be interested in some of the stuff you have for sale.

Thanks,

Karl

Advertise them well and get as much as you can. The last 494 planter I bought included all the plates, and I gave a dollar for it at auction. I also bought an IH 45 baler at another auction, and gave $250 for it, in good working order and always shedded. The disc is another thing could go as high as $500, or I had one given to me that had a few broken disc blades. In the modern no till era, a lot of this older equipment has become obsolete. Only small timers around here buy that kind of stuff since the bigger outfits want more modern, and economical no till stuff. Square balers are also not bringing much since farmers cant get help to bale, and everybody is going to round balers which can be done by one man.

I agree with LazyHorse. The disk is probably the most valuable around here, $300 - 800. The mower, if in good shape, next. If there are a lot of tractor collectors, the plow might sell fairly well. The planters are good planters, but just not worth much today. Around here, if a baler isn't New Holland, or maybe JD, it sells for $50 - 500, usually closer to 50.
