Back blade adjustments

I want to purchase a back blade for my Ford 860. I went to the NH dealer and the guy of course tried to talk me into the most expensive blade with '15 no wrench adjustments'. The one adjustment that it had that I had not seen before was a way to change the vertical angle of the blade to the ground. I'm guessing it might make the blade bite a little more. Do I need this? My intended use would be grading the driveway, snow removal, and light landscape grading. Thanks, Dave
PS. Seems like I should be able to find tons of used back blades, but I haven't seen any. Is there a website for used implements like blades and mowers.

You might want to consider a box blade rather than an angle blade. I have both, and for grading drives and landscaping, I find the box blade does a much smoother job. Never used it to move snow, might be kind of slow for that. Personally the heaviness of the blade would be priority over more adjustments. You will probably only use about three positions anyway. On most tractors you can make other adjustments with your top link and the adjustment on your lift arm.
Hope this helps,
Matt

websites like king kutter.com and landpride.com will give you a dealer locator and a choice of different blades that they offer along with a brief description of their intended use. Many "aftermarket" implement dealers carry these at very reasonable prices.

If I understand correctly the adjustment you described I make that adjustment by changing the length of my toplink, that is a "no tools required" adjustment. As for used blades if you don't need it today you can find them but you have to scan the classified regularly and act quickly because they don't last. I have also seen them at auctions. They tend to show up in the papers more in the winter when sellers know people need them for the snow. I don't know what area you are in but a good farm paper with classifieds is where you will see them. Every so often I see one in the Lancaster Farming paper.

Dave, Depends on the price of the adjustable blade compared to the regular blade. My humble 6 position standard non-angling blade does a GREAT job on my 800 foot gravel driveway! The angle idea is interesting, and if I'd pay $150 for a regular blade, I guess I'd pay an extra $50 for the angle option, but unless you're going to try and move a lot of packed dirt, the regular blade should suffice. Just a personal opinion. You're right, there 'should be' tons of used blades around, but none are ever advertised. One of those un-answerable questons. Maybe we should start a "sell your unused equipment" movement and get to word out to everyone to put a classified in the paper if you don't use the implement anymore! :)

Best Regards, John
