I agree with that!! Only problem is they eat them fast than they can grow. Also had good luck purplehull zipper peas.

Still working on keeping them out so stuff can grow to some size. Any suggestions?

Local farmer just planted corn in dad's field that was dormant for 8+ years. Then i planted oats in a small plot 1/2 acre or more in wooded section by a creek. This is all right next to their bedding area and big grouping of 20+ year old evergreen trees where the turkey hang out. Should get a good crowd of them this year. Still looking for that horn growing stuff though. It comes in a block or a seed, no idea of what it is though. Bruce

Sounds like good suggestions so far. Do you live where there is deep snow most winters, then you might want to lean towards more grains that provide more energy higher on a stalk. I've heard of grain sorgum being used also, kinda like corn if you want something a bit diff.

Son planted a couple rows of sweetcorn in the back field - turkeys had it before it even sprouted and came up. They scratched it up right down the rows. Hope the coating on it tasted terrible!

Late summer plant rye, after last frost in the spring, plant buck wheat. If you have room, they like some clover too. This is what i do on my place, and they sure like it. Robert

I planted clover with orchard grass and alfalfa. This is in addition to corn. The critters here love the combo. Drew s/w WI.

Serecia lespedeza is a good choice. Gets about 3 feet tall. Good grazing when green and holds the seeds well during the winter.

Perhaps only those from the South will appreciate this, but deer and turkeys are much too plentiful here. Local farmer calls turkeys "kudzu on 2 feet".
