Well after messing with the gearbox and not getting the results I wanted, I pulled the cover off to see what was going on inside. No gear oil in there, just grease (fresh grease). That answers the question about the drain plug on the bottom but no fill plug on top. I guess you just stick your grease gun hose in the bottom plug and start pumping. I played with the lever while watching the action inside. It slips into and out of gear nicely. I was expecting more of a "CLICK". Still no motion out of the rake so I turned my attention to the driveshaft coming off the wheel. Driveshaft turns by hand but not when the wheel goes 'round. Then I noticed the little levers on the inside of each wheel. Could it be? Worth a shot. Sure enough, each wheel has a lever that engages and disengages it from the drive axle. Engage those wheels and I'm raking hay! Sometimes the solution is right in front (or in back) of you!

Now that you mention it . . . I remember those little hub levers too. Only ever used that rake once, a couple of years ago. Well, it's good that you figured it out. Have fun and be safe!
