I have had a Cole MX12 one row planter for my one point hitch 140 Farmall. I have had the planter for 20 years -- it is in great condition just to look at it, but the seed plates hang up when planting. I can set it loose or not so loose and the same results. It also drags a hand full of seed to the end of the row when it is partially working right. I bought an Earthway push planter years ago and it works great. I only garden a few acres, but I would like to use the Cole planter. I don't have a gauge wheel on the front. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I have the same probs with my 2 row sometimes.

It probly is'nt binding at the plate. If you will take the driveshafts out, clean and grease the bushings and shafts it should start to run right. It builds up gunk and rust in there even with plenty of grease.

If you try to make it free itself up it can bust the drive cogs and they're $8 each plus shipping.

I linked in the Powell site for you just in case you're bullheaded too.
