I purchases a model 9 John Deere mower at an auction June 23 along with a ground-driven John Deere spreader. I have a few questions. My dad noticed a small hole on the left-rear side of the mower (opposite the sickle bar) and am wondering what this is for, off-set weight? small wheel? And I don't know what model this wood-sided spreader is and size. My uncle had a similar sized New Idea spreader and I think he said it was a 35 bushel spreader, but not sure. Wood will all have to be replaced along with one tire. Unit is otherwise pretty sound. There was an old horse-drawn spreader, excellent condition, that sold for $1375-phew, what a price. My Ford 2N was crying out for a John Deere spreader to pull, as this is identical to what my grandpa had on his farm. Will be cute restored. Can anyone recommend a place to acquire manuals for these implements? I imagine the spreader wood, would be painted green? Another question. I am looking to get a sandblaster for all this farm equipment restoration. Could anyone give me information as to what size, capacity, etc. unit I should be looking at and approximate cost. I feel with this much to do, and over a long period of time, purchasing might be to my advantage over renting unit and the hassles that can go with that. My dad (71) is eager to help in restoration (of the tractor) as he has done several old cars and has two Allis Chalmers restored. Any input on this post would be much appreciated. Al on the farm

Al...just a little advice on using the forums...ask your questions one at a time, and you'll tend to gget better results. There is an excellent tool forum for your question on the sandblaster. As for the actual questions, I have no idea, other than to say around here those spreaders cost a fortune in good shape.

Take Care
Steve
