I recently purchased a 488 haybine and during transport one of the coil spring rods broke. I replaced it and it known sits on a angle sloped toward the pto side. Is this because the coil is not adjusted correctly? Also when i lower the unit the pto side sit almost on the ground1/2 inch should it float higher then this? Once again the pto side is lower than the opposite side which is about 4in off the ground. Do i want it level when it is in the cut position? I plan on odering a operators manuel but the hay is ready today
Thank you

so solve the problem is the side raised when the haybine is the transport position.(where the tongue it far right when sitting ont the tractor) i bought a massey ferguson haybine last month when i brought it home and hooked it up and i let it down the far side was about 4 inches higher then the pto side. i adjusted and adjusted it. then i dicided to open it up into mowing position (tongue is far left when sitting on tractor) and sit it down. it sat perfect on the ground. just thought i would put my $0.02 in. this may be the problem

Lower the header as far as it will go, allow the hydraulic cylinder to completely collapse. Adjust each spring so it requires 50-75 lbs pull on the ends of the push bar to raise each end of the header. Go back & forth, as adjusting one side will affect the other somewhat. Fine tune this flotation adjustment while mowing as required. Read your ops manual when it comes. Happy mowing.

It should sit level on the groumd it should sit on the ground and slide along on the plates. You can adjust it on the ram to make it sit higher or lower to the ground .
